#TTAdelaide: Thrown on the Scrap Heap

Shared from our Facebook page.

Australian police have the exact same problem as the U.K, in how they are treated once they are injured, particularly with PTSD.

At least, the media have picked up down there that it is a national disgrace how officers are left on the scrap heap and disregarded.

They also have a similar Facebook page, called Medically Retired Western Australian Police Officers Association Inc.

Well worth watching this video.

So sad that this goes on on the other side of the world,.I have complex PTSI and was treated like scum by the plod that I had given my life to. It takes a lot to move on and live life with a injured brain. As I say fuck the police and run away as fast as you can, sadly the plod are a toxic immoral mob.

It’s an absolute disgrace the way Police Officers with PTSD are treated . As a retired member of the RUC and PSNI our government will not recognise this as a medical condition and compensate us in any way .

Thanks for your messages and sorry for my delayed reply, I have been away on holidays. I started our group in 2008 before it was incorporated and I see you guys are experiencing similar problems. No matter what officials say the issue is always saving money.

Our original plan was to get all the sick people together, learn from each other, identify issues so we can be seen as “An Authority on the Issues” by anyone we speak to and the local media.

That plan has worked well, we spent several hard years trying to get the attention on the local media – who now regularly call us for comment.

One needs to always remember your group needs to present itself as professionally as possible so people take you seriously – not as a group of disgruntled former employees. If that is done you will always have the moral high ground. No normal person likes to hear injured cops are being screwed.

It is worth looking out for a government inquiry that you can vaguely if not directly connect your issues to and then give a written submission on your grievances. That has worked well for us twice – which has made us welcome to visit quite a few members of parliament.

It took us some time to get recognition from the local Police Union (federation) and the police force itself. Be aware you will always get
the ear of the serving police on the street and it is good if the federation and department can see you can easily do that – without getting their permission first.

I have had a look at your website and it looks like you guys are on the right track. Is there a reason why you haven’t called yourself injured on duty police pensions association? ….. Because it is not obvious you are former police until you read the site more deeply.

Face book has worked really well for us and we have a lot of serving police watching what we are doing and sending us messages. If you haven’t got one consider stating a face book site for your group.

If you have any other questions feel very welcome to ask.

    Cheers
