Injury On duty Pensioners Association has just received registration status from the Charity Commission and is now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a Registered Charity Number 1174473
A CIO is a charity which is also incorporated. In law it is recognised as a legal entity. The trustees benefit from having limited liability. An Association CIO model means our membership has voting rights that can help determine the direction of IODPA.
Charities are recognised publicly as being for the wider good (not just the good of their own members). Being a charity gives us that public recognition.
The existence of IODPA – there to help those injured on duty – is a distinct realignment. We do not exist to absolve chief constables in providing welfare and a safety net, but because chief constables have failed to provide. The charity of our members, those themselves injured on duty, needs to take over where the ability of the police service to look after its injured has failed.
We hope to not work in opposition to chief constables but in conjunction with them, to tell them what needs to be done for the public benefit by supporting those injured on duty. A hard task when some chief constables block our message on social media, but not an impossible one.
IODPA would like to thank its members and supporters to allow us to get this far. This is the start of something new.
It is indeed a milestone. Borne out of passing comments made in the Master Thatcher in Taunton three years ago.
Will anything change?
Will PPA’s take any notice, will IODPA be invited into Meetings, chaired by those whom we have fought over the last few years.
Not a chance in hell.
Their recovery plan is well under way, but while Remoaners campaign not just to stall Brexit, but to permanently derail it, no such supportive legislation will be forthcoming.
Those that have 20 years until state retirement age, will I fear need to brush up, in the not too distant future.
This writer will be pushing up the daisies!
IODPA is a Registered Charity who’s purpose is to relieve the need of retired and serving police officers in hardship or distress who are disabled as a consequence of being injured on duty.
It is the fact that a small number of Forces are now acting outside of the regulations that the IODPA came into being
We wonder why it is but a select few Police Forces, (the majority are not) are now treating their injured former offices in such a manner, employing methods and practices that have just one intended purpose, that is to reduce their pension budget.
If such methods and behaviour were right and proper then would not all Police Forces be conducting reviews in this manner ?.
It would appear that certain Chiefs do not like to enter into a public discussion, with a Registered Charity no less.
Are we not a free and open society ? What are we to make of it all?
It’s hard to believe, yet alone comprehend, why any CC would block social media messages from the IODPA.
It can only be seen to be akin to the everyday thief who hides in his loft when the police come calling to execute an arrest warrant….a futile pursuit which only serves to delay the inevitable and ultimately makes the final outcome all the worse when it finally comes.
WAKE UP!!!!
To the CC’s and their direct ‘minions’…..The days of burying your heads in the sand and trying to hide from your indiscretions, hoping that you will somehow ‘get away with it’ are over.
The IODPA is here, and here to stay. We are not going anywhere, anytime soon. We are prepared for you. We are not scared of you. We will stand up to you if you dare to step out of line…..and more importantly, we will crush you if you do.
This isn’t fighting talk…..it’s just a set in stone guarantee that should you wish to pick an unfair and unjust fight….be the metaphoric ‘school bully’ so to speak…..then we will be there….akin to the big brother of the oppressed individual….waiting at the similarly metaphoric ‘school gate’ to settle the score and level the playing field. Or worse…..tilt the playing field into such an uphill battle that you will have lost before you started.
Fantastic news, it’s little wonder CC’s are refusing to respond on social media, time and time again, IODPA and their legal representatives have sent them packing with their tails between their legs so many times when it comes to applying the regulations, they’re just choosing their battles carefully ;-).

For a Chief Constable to block IODPA and any other injured officer in this day and age is not only bad publicity it is morally wrong.
Iodpa has gone for a small group that started out of necessity to a large group with real feeling,care and compassion.
Those that have made this happen and continue to stride forwards are giants among men and women. I can’t say how proud and pleased that I am for all these people who have worked tirelessly to get the recognition this group deserve.
Well done IODPA on reaching the all important milestone of charitable status.
Now the guard dog has teeth perhaps the likes of NARPO and the Police Federation will stop whispering in corners.
Keep up the good work and keep shining the bright light of justice into those dark and murky corners where HR departments think they can make it all up as they go along.

This is the most amazing news. At long last, injured police officers have someone fighting their corner.
I can honestly say that this organisation has inspired me no end. Gave me strength when I thought that I couldn’t go on.
Let’s hope forces and Chief Constables now start taking note.

Chief Constables MUST now recognise this wonderful charity and its work.
Why would they not?
Surely it is in the interests of police forces, police pensioners injured on duty, and the wider public, for police forces to perform any review of an injury award in the fairest and most lawful way.
Chief Constables would never want to think that their previous employees, whose careers were ended by an injury they received performing their duty, or their families, were suffering trauma, anxiety or upset as a direct result of the way their review was being conducted.
Would they?
Why on earth would a Chief Constable and a police force not want to work with a charity whose sole aim is to assist those former police officers injured protecting the public?
The IODPA need to give those poor Chief Constables who have blocked them on social media, a second chance.
They have clearly got a bit mixed up and forgotten about the people that served them loyally, who lost their careers and their health and whose lives were devastated by an injury at work.
Chief Constables don’t want to cause any more unnecessary suffering for those police pensioners.
Do they?
Congratulations! This now opens many doors. PPA’s now need to recognise IODPA properly and allow it into meetings etc.
I have followed IODPA for a number of years now, I have been inspired by your tenancity and resolve to eke out the wrongdoings of the wrongdoers that feed on the vulnerable, I salute you !!
It has given me the strength and knowledge to continue in my own plight to be awarded an injury duty award.
